In Africa, things are different with the rise of mobile money solutions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to the World Bank\u2019s Global Financial Inclusion database,\u00a0<strong>700 million adults<\/strong> became <strong>account holders\u00a0<\/strong>between 2011 and 2014, and the <strong>unbanked population<\/strong> fell by <strong>20%<\/strong>, down from <strong>2.5 billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the same database, more than <strong>20% of unbanked adults<\/strong> receive <strong>wages<\/strong> or <strong>government transfers in cash<\/strong>, and still a lot of people in <strong>developing countries are paying bills<\/strong> and <strong>school fees<\/strong> in <strong>cash<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Bank account rate<\/h3>\n<p class=\"slide-title\">As shown in the map below, Africa is the place in the world where the <strong>bank account rate<\/strong> is the lowest, with <strong>8 countries<\/strong> in which less than <strong>15% of their population<\/strong> have a <strong>bank account<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5515 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/insights.invyo.io\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Techfoliance-africa_world-bank_financial-inclusion-fintech-banking.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1003\" height=\"704\" srcset=\"https:\/\/insights.invyo.io\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Techfoliance-africa_world-bank_financial-inclusion-fintech-banking.jpg 1003w, https:\/\/insights.invyo.io\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Techfoliance-africa_world-bank_financial-inclusion-fintech-banking-300x211.jpg 300w, https:\/\/insights.invyo.io\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Techfoliance-africa_world-bank_financial-inclusion-fintech-banking-768x539.jpg 768w, https:\/\/insights.invyo.io\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Techfoliance-africa_world-bank_financial-inclusion-fintech-banking-700x491.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1003px) 100vw, 1003px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Bank account penetration rate<\/h3>\n<p>In this other chart, we can see that among the <strong>10 countries<\/strong> that saw the biggest increase in the <strong>number of people with accounts<\/strong> between 2011 and 2014, five of them are African.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5516 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/insights.invyo.io\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Techfoliance-africa_world-bank_financial-inclusion-fintech-banking_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"848\" height=\"484\" srcset=\"https:\/\/insights.invyo.io\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Techfoliance-africa_world-bank_financial-inclusion-fintech-banking_2.jpg 848w, https:\/\/insights.invyo.io\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Techfoliance-africa_world-bank_financial-inclusion-fintech-banking_2-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/insights.invyo.io\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Techfoliance-africa_world-bank_financial-inclusion-fintech-banking_2-768x438.jpg 768w, https:\/\/insights.invyo.io\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Techfoliance-africa_world-bank_financial-inclusion-fintech-banking_2-700x400.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 848px) 100vw, 848px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Mobile money in Africa<\/h3>\n<p>The <strong>mobile money market<\/strong> is expanding in developing countries in particular.
