Although \u201cBlockchain is now\u201d were the final words of the Blockshow’s keynotes, many still believe that the real revolution everyone is talking about won’t happen before 3 or 4 years. Milan Sallaba, Partner at Deloitte and Technology Sector Head, reminded it very clearly:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are only scratching the surface right now (…) we need to push the technology and its adoption. Big use cases will come as a results\u201d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Blockchain: Hype or Game Changer?<\/h3>\n

This technology will strive to become a game changer<\/strong> in every single industry, driven by its main characteristics, and well synthetized by Paolo Tasca from UCL Centre for Blockchain Technologies during the conference:\u00a0Decentralization<\/strong>;\u00a0Security<\/strong>, Transparency <\/strong>& Immutability<\/strong>; and last but not least,\u00a0Automation<\/strong> with Smart contracts (i.e. self executing).<\/p>\n

Everyone is working on it<\/strong>: there is undoubtedly a massive Blockchain hype, and\u00a0it has been\u00a0so far a buzzword to many. According to Gartner, the Blockchain technology hit in 2016 the highest peak of the famous Hype curve<\/strong>, where \u201cusers and the public are suffering from “inflated expectations” about its benefits\u201d. Some facts confirm that statement, when the Bitcoin value reached an ounce of gold on March, more and more people invest in crypto currencies<\/strong>, creating a so-called bubble coming along a general surge in prices.<\/p>\n

Cryptocurrencies are exploding<\/strong> in value and number, and ICOs (Initial Coin Offering) are on fire! Only at the Blockshow, at least 5 crypto-investment funds<\/strong> were represented at the event: Satoshi, CyberFund, DAO Casino, TaaS, etc.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you\u2019re dealing with blockchain assets – you\u2019re dealing with startups. Hyper volatility.\u201c said Marina Gureva, CEO at cyber-Fund.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Challenges for a Widespread Blockchain Adoption<\/h3>\n

\u00ab How to make your mom use that service?\u00bb asked Roger Benites \u2013 CEO at Bitinka. We need to educate people and make it easier<\/strong> to make \u201cmoms\u201d use it. To our mind, this will be solved thanks to user experiences<\/strong> made easy and concrete use cases solving true pain points. There is no need for all to fully understand the technology<\/strong>, as beautifully said by Marco Favia \u2013 Head of the Blockchain Business Board:<\/p>\n

\u201cI don’t understand why everyone want to understand how Blockchains works. No one wants to understand how smartphones work. It just works.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Following our vision to help decision makers understand emerging trends<\/strong> and take actions accordingly, we thought that some advice\u00a0were worth mentioning:<\/p>\n

Milan Sallaba said “work iteratively and focused<\/strong>: start small and work the way up\u201d. Philipp Kr\u00f6mer completed by \u201cDon\u2019t wait for your board to open a budget, go take a developper<\/strong>, see some front-end problems and work on it”.<\/p>\n

Corporates and individuals should be aware of its potential, learn how to implement it<\/strong> and the best way to go, is actually learning by doing. So go build your blockchain!<\/p>\n

Companies should focus on building solutions with genuine added value<\/strong> instead of communicating around Blockchain just for the hype.<\/p>\n

Think of the problem first<\/strong> and develop customer-centric solution<\/strong>. Involve Blockchain only if it adds a unique value.<\/p>\n
