We noticed that beside those who work in Finance or in Fintech, very few people understand the changes that we are (all) about to face in the coming years ! We want to highlight the potential of Fintechs to more and more people to help them appreciate the power of these technologies in their life !

L’idée est de partir à la rencontre des entrepreneurs de la Fintech à travers le monde, de comprendre pourquoi et comment ils révolutionnent le secteur financier. Nous voulons apporter un regard nouveau, et révéler des technologies en finance développées par des entrepreneurs passionnés qui travaillent dure pour changer notre manière de payer, gérer et investir notre argent.

Mise à part ceux qui ont déjà un pied dans la finance ou dans les Fintechs, peu de personnes ont conscience des changements que ces technologies vont entraîner dans notre quotidien ! #Brazil – Overview of the Top 6 VC funds involved in Fintech

The fintech ecosystem in Sao paulo, Brazil

We have seen very interesting move in the Fintech sector over the past years in Brazil, and more specifically in São Paulo in payment and investment.

Latin America is offering investors huge opportunities since more and more VCs are betting on the expansion of the sector. In 2016, we account a bit more than 80 fintech start-ups in Brazil. The market is huge and targets 40% of the population who don’t have access yet to traditional banking services. In addition, the mobile penetration rate is among the highest in the world with 115% (very closed to the mobile penetration rate of Africa : 133%).

Among the 3 biggest investment made to Brazilian Fintechs, we find :

NuBank, a neobank that raised almost 100 million dollars since 2013,

Guia Bolso, a platform that help people manage their savings, that raised 7 million dollars since 2012

Bankfacil, a lending platform between individuals, that raised 4.4 million dollars since 2012

The 6 most active VC funds in Fintech in Sweden

Sweden (mainly driven by Stockholm based start-ups) is one of the leading country in Europe in the Fintech sector. In 2014, reports positioned Stockholm as the 2nd most important city in Europe behind London and before Amsterdam with 15 investments, representing roughly 260 million dollars.

Two big names have contributed to shape the Swedish Fintech ecosystem : Klarna and iZettle. Klarna, a start-up that provides e-commerce payment solutions for merchants and shoppers has raised 125 million dollars from big investment funds such as Sequoia Capital or General Atlantic. iZettle, a mobile payment company, has raised more than 55 million dollars from prestigious investment funds such as Greylock partners, Santander Innoventures or Northzone.

However, the swedish Fintech market is not restricted to these 2 companies. The ecosystem is very robust and more and more swedish Fintechs are attracting investment funds’ eyes.

In the chart below, we can notice that NFT Ventures, a stockholm-based investment funds, is the most active VC fund in Sweden in number of deals. The fund has invested in almost 15 Fintechs from lending to payment.

#Africa: Overview of the 6 most active countries in FinTech

The tech startup ecosytem in Africa is booming and more and more start-ups are being funded by investors from over the world. According to a recent report published by Disrupt Africa, more than 120 start-ups have raised a total of 185 785 500 dollars in 2015. The top 3 countries were South Africa (36%), Nigeria (24%) and Kenya (14.4%).

The Fintech ecosystem is growing in Africa, especially in South Africa, with more and more initiatives being launched such as the Cape Town Barclays accelerator. In our chart below, we highlight 31 Fintech startups coming from 6 countries.
